Trying to determine which Detroit Axle is the correct replacement for a TRW rack in a NA '96 850. Wish they had better pictures of the bottom of the valve on their site.
Speaking with them today, they didn't have an immediate answer for SMI vs. TRW racks among their own part numbers. Are these racks Cardone racks or are they actually rebuilt by "Detroit Axle"? I struggle to see how they can be so inexpensive and with a 10 year warranty. I want to go with them, but I have mixed feelings. If I get another 2-3 years out of this car I will be satisfied.

And you don't know if these are just stock pictures. Either will fit, the difference is the inner and outer tie rods.
Interesting that the 'cheaper' option does not show it fitting any V70 or C70 cars, but it does fit a 2000 S70 AWD. Neither is listed for V70 AWD variants?? In fact if you check they don't even list any options for V70 AWD. So then what is the difference in a rack for an AWD S70 and an AWD V70? I thought all P80's used the same racks with either being an option, the difference was the inner and outer tie-rods depending on TRW and SMI?
Today, life is confusing more than normal! Think I need to go for a nap!
Neil.

I though the engine mount on the AWD was different but I’ll head to the webstore to sort that out shortly.

Other than Detroit Axle, what is the best go-to rebuilt TRW rack available on the web right now?
I feel like anyone selling these needs to have a clear cut and concise way of differentiating them. Is the only difference the tie-rod threads on the rack side, and not on the tie-rod ends themselves?
Does any supplier sell just the TRW rebuilt rack without the tie-rod ends and bellows? I just did those last year on rack that is failing in my car now. If I can recycle those parts, I'd like to.
