ng to get my rear lights working on my 2004 xc70 , it keeps blowing bulbs , I believe previous owner may have installed relays in rear ecm that don't belong there !

Also check your grounds at the back of the car, along with the wiring harness into the tailgate at the LH hinge for broken wires and shorts.
Finally, look at the contacts in the bulb holder itself. My sons' 06 XC70 had one that looked melted. I was able to repair it but concerning all the same.
