1982 Volvo 240 Turbo For Sale Dead Engine

Post by WellaWeiss »

Hello all, I recently got word that my 1982 Volvo 240 Turbo Automatic with 328,000 miles on it's engine has died, and I'm looking for guidance on anything I aught to do with it, I hate to lose the car, but I feel like their might be somewhere I should look for the sake of people who might need parts for something like it. I'm just not sure where to look, and most are telling me to scrap it. Figured I'd at least ask in a community where I might be able to get more experienced input. I'm in South Carolina.

I'm happy to sell it but I'm no expert on it by any means, just feel it'd be a shame to scrap it if it'd be able to help someone maybe? Just not sure where to start?

Car looks clean and the 240 Turbo is a desirable Brick even with a dead engine. When you say a dead engine, what do you mean? Has is catastrophically exploded or something? If not does it just not start and run? I had a 760 Turbo engine re-built 15 years ago and it wasn't cheap then but it did run beautifully after that.

Sharp 240. Someone save it please. A non turbo engine might be easier to find and would be an easy swap.

I thought the redblocks were bulletproof?

How much are you asking for the car?

I'm honestly not sure what to ask, as I'm definitely no expert, I've prolly put about 5 grand or so into her, including what I paid to get her, but I generally don't know what would be fair to ask. Like I said I genuinely love the car, just not sure where to go from here you know? And as for what I was told by the Volvo Mechanic I brought it too, I had it serviced by them the 24th of June, for the purpose of restoring the AC, and then on the 9th of July, she died, had to wait for a week for the mechanics to show back up from their vacation and found out on the 18th of July that she had "Dropped all her fluids out and the engine had locked up." and that the only avenue of repair would be Booku money, as he put it, I didn't even think their was any danger impending, I had plans to put a lot more into the car, but now it seems I don't really have the avenue open to keep working on her. It's my first Volvo I ever owned at the behest of someone close to me insisting it was a good car for me to get, and the more I drove it, the more I fell in love with it, and wanted to improve it more and more. But I don't know if I can really afford to completely rebuild/replace the engine myself so I'm looking for help on that front, in the case of possibly selling her to someone who can?

At that price I'm pretty sure someone will grab it. Too bad you're all the way out in California.

Car is in South Carolina, not California, if that helps.

I read the post wrong. I thought it said Southern California. Thanks for the correction.

I had a two door in college, with a bad bash in the driver door.
She was ugly but I loved her.

I might be interested in this one if you were in Texas.
