99 V70 XC rear shocks question

One of my friends has a 99 V70Xc with failed rear shocks. They are not nearby so have asked for a picture so I can identify if they are Nivomats or not. I am 99+% they will be as it was a wagon AWD and don't believe they came with plain shocks.

Now I have looked but can't see anything, but I was sure I read of someone fitting standard type shocks to an XC. There is a 00 S70 AWD in the local PnP which I am certain did not have Nivomats fitted which may mean they could be fitted the the 99 XC potentially.

There is also a 98 XC there and the Nivomats are still there, but the boots are shot and I believe they are no longer available as I recall from foggydogg's trials on the subject.

Anyone able to shed light on this?

I'll look under my '00 XC when I get away from the VA tomorrow. It's still jacked up under the tree after the failed belly crossmember experiment.
I've also been fiddling with a boot workaround for the dust gaiter, but it got put on a higher shelf during my wrestling match with the R.
And the 2nd Nivo you sent me is still on that same shelf.
My list grows longer daily, it seems.

Did you ever order and receive the rubber bellows/boots? They are supposedly on back-order and the local dealer says they take about 4 weeks to get here. I was thinking of ordering a set to see if they show up as I do know of a set of Nivomats for an XC but their bellows are shot.

If they are nivomats, and you change to regular, you would also need the springs. The issue with the xc models is they are higher.

Thanks befarrer. Appreciate the reminder as I had forgotten about the spring thing.

I am hoping they Nivomat boots are still available as these are just to help the owner to sell the car on in a working condition. She is a mechanic and removed them for her daily but is now moving on to a newer Volvo (XC60).

I did remove my nivomats, and have OEM Volvo non Nivomats shocks in their place, and Lesjofors springs claiming to be for a V70 AWD without self leveling suspension, and the ride is much smoother, especially for back seat passengers. My AWD is not an XC though.

I do find the Nivomats can be a little hard when there is no load in the rear of the car, but they are great with a load.

V70XC AWD has different ride height at the rear with different hubs and shocks to the regular P80 AWD.

Sounds like a lot of stuff in the world today. I work at a Volvo truck shop, we are having the same issue, common parts on backorder with no eta.
