I have a question about the design ( shape & size ) of the steering tie rod.
I am replacing all of the front tie rods and bought a kit from FCP. However, my mechanic says the new design tie rod will not align. Photo shows original & new black.
I notice most new replacements are the straighter rods. Has anyone got a word or experience with the rods and the new design vs older arch design ?
My mechanic is not a Volvo specialist - just a perfunctory all purpose shop. I always buy the parts and they install.
Any feedback is very welcome.
Thanks, V70 Volvo in Brooklyn

Looking at the website the part number is what they show for your car? Clearly either the original or the new one is wrong. If the car won't align, your mechanic, Volvo specialist or not, it won't work. They are close to an inch different in length.
I would check with FCP and see what is going on. Unless the inner tie rod has also been changed and is shorter?
Looking at the Volvo part picture on FCP, it looks the same as your new one from TRW.
Neil.

Check what brand of steering rack your car has. These parts are listed for cars fitted with an SMI branded rack. In the Previous generation of Volvos up to 2000 they had 2 different brands which the tie-rods are different.

I think you probably have a Bosch ZF rack on your car, those parts appear to be for an SMI rack and the ends will differ. Original SMI rack boots will have "SMI" molded in the plastic of the boot on the outer end of the boot that is visible with the wheel off.
