Water / Methanol injection ( etc )

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Water / Methanol injection ( etc )

Post by Sveedy »

Well this seems to be where those interested in such stuff should reside.

I'm going to install a water / methanol injection system in Sveedy. Just waiting on delivery.
With all of my mods, I'm still getting some knock sometimes at WOT. Aaron at Vast Tuning, who has been great, pointed me toward WMI as a solution. From what I've read, it should do what I need, namely bring down my air intake temp. Will also allow for more boost if I want. Pretty neat system. You're basically spraying / atomizing windshield washer fluid ( just a bit more methanol ) into the intake system. It's an on demand system, so only injects when psi hits whatever setting you chose. Other than that, it sits dormant.

I'm thinking that this will be the last mod ( lol ) other than some brake and under carriage work. After stage 0, it just started with a new intercooler ( do88 ) and went from there :
N/A throttle body w/ 960 plate ( line-bored turbo intake )
Silicone hoses
DW200 fuel pump and wiring
Green injectors
Vast ecu tune
Wideband AFR
N/A camshafts
16T ( super ) turbo
Forge wategate
Japanifold
IPD turbo back exhaust
Koni shocks & struts

And somewhere in there the engine got rebuilt.

There's probably a lesson in there somewhere, but apparently I'm just not interested....

Awesome. I love this stuff... keep updating this. What a great list of mods.

What's after water/methanol? 18T?

If you get video of your car, like idle exhaust, or in-car acceleration, etc., you can upload videos here now.

Everyone know that BMW used Water Injection in one of their high end production machines a couple years ago? Of course it had to be BMW water.

Thanks Matt !
I wanted an 18T, but couldn't find one rebuilt when I needed it, so hence the 16T. But it's got the 11 blade turbine which, supposedly, makes about as much psi as the 18T. But I would still like to get an 18T one of these days.

And I'll try posting a video of the idle.

And BMW water ? Is that maybe Doppelbock ?

Water / Methanol injection is a Evaporative cooling for your intake air. The mixture absorbs heat, vaporizes and carries the heat away before it enters the cylinder, temperatures inside the cylinder are reduced and the propensity for detonation is decreased. Methanol will also raise your octane rating further reduce the propensity for detonation.

It is equivalent to running race gas without the $12.00 / gallon price tag. The difference in price between racing gas and pump gas will pay for the Water / Methanol injection system in about 1 -2 tanks of fuel.

You will need another tune to take full advantage of the Water / Methanol injection.

I learned a thing, thank you. I've always wondered how the liquid vaporizing in the combustion chamber didn't cause a lot of expansion and make things even worse. It's upstream!

Hey it's there, sounds great! Nothing like a 5-cyl Volvo sound. There's something about it.
