2006 XC70 blower fan only runs with defrost on

My 2006 XC70's blower fan only runs when the defrost is on. Is this indicative of a dead resistor?

Yes, the resistor is built into the fan motor housing. It can be replaced separately.

So, you're probably having an issue with the climate control... When something is not happy it goes into a default mode.. you need VIDA or AUTEL... gotta put the machine on her..

Good point, I do have a VIDA-DICE system, so I will have a look! I don't want to spring for the resistor for it unless it is toast, they are surprisingly spendy for these cars...
