Dad is 92 and his kidneys were in the same condition. Was stuck in Taiwan for 2.5 years as parents left last day of Dec 2019. Was back in June this year with 12 to 13 meds. Duke said he had Alzheimer after brain scan and kidneys are a big problem after years and years of Metformin and blood pressure beside cholesterol meds. All other organs are doing well.
Since I've been insulin free for over a year put Dad and Mom on my Duke diet. In 2.5 months he lost 8 lbs, no more Metformin with A1C at 6.3 and off blood pressure meds and all others, so meds free. Biggest improvement was the Alzheimer. The lights are on again and can have conversions. His Duke PCP couldn't say anything when I told her I was going to change his diet as Dr. Westman is a very well known and respected physician at Duke but goes against the Grain of the food pyramid (Yes, pun intended but no joke).

This is the first session with all his patients, except me as I had already been insulin free but wanted to be under his supervision. I'm still under his care and will have one last appointment next years as my Diabetes has been in "remission" is the term used by Dr. Westman.
I was 201 lbs in 2018 and now under 160 for over a year. Only found out I had diabetes Aug last year 2021 when I needed emergency surgery. A1C at 14.8 and blood sugar at 498 when I went in for emergency surgery at Duke.
