Two lights on - intermittent (ANTI-SKID OFF, TIRE PRESS. SYST)

Post by hot9000 »

I haven't been on this site for a while as we haven't been driving a lot during the pandemic, etc. Lately I started driving a lot more on our 2012 XC90. Very soon I ran into the following. Two warning lights are on and off:

1. ANTI-SKID OFF / SERVICE REQUIRED - I notice turn left would cause it to come on. Sometimes turn right would clear it but not always. It would usually go away after a while. I figured since I am in flat land on the sunny west coast, it probably isn't that urgent to get it fixed.

2. TIRE PRESS. SYST. / SERVICE REQUIRED - In the beginning, I had a nail in the tire and thanks to the TIPS, I noticed and got the tire patched and all. Very soon though, this light came on. It would stay on for usually a day or two before it goes away. Then it would come back again and again. Now I don't know when a nail is in my tire next time. But then again, I owned cars without TIPS in the past.

Outside of two issues, XC90 runs great. We just crossed 60K miles for a 10yr vehicle. And these days, new cars are so much more expensive that I would put off buying a new one as long as I can. So, I wonder, if you were me, what would be your plan re: the above 2 issues? Is it something with a quick fix? I heard replacing the battery (or battery reset) might clear the first light.

Thanks in advance!

Tire pressure light magically went away -- i was at the shop recently to take xc90 for a maintenance service and overheard the guy talking to the supervisor about some sensor in the spare tire. Not sure what it is about but after that, tire pressure light went away.

The anti-skid light still on. Seems the going rate for running a diagnostics is $250 here and can be waived if the repair is done at the same shop. Oh well.

Not a guarantee but a visit to either shops could potentially tell you what's wrong and give you a price without diagnostic charges unless it's something that really requires it. Hope it's Bay Area enough!

Turning and the antiskid appearing/disappearing could well be the steering angle sensor (SAS), a code read from a diagnostic tool may confirm.

TMPS has no sensor in the spare, really dumb system that's capable of using a ton of aftermarket sensors. System description is noted here- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/tpms ... on.579857/
