2002 V70 (Timing belt replacement)

Post by Mr. Detail »

Hi Guys;
Just a quick question on what you may have done in the past when you had to replace your timing belt.
My P2 has 178k miles on her and is due for the Volvo recommended (every 10 yr.) timing belt replacement.
I planned to replace the idler and the tensioner but does everyone also feel the need to replace the water pump at the same time?
I have owned this car for over 6 years so far with no water pump issues.

One follow-up question. I asked my old school mechanic who likes to work on American cars more than my car if he could replace my timing belt for me and he said as long as it is a "single overhead cam" and not a "dual overhead" one.
Is my P2 a "single overhead cam"?

Change the water pump too. Its the most common cause of timing belt failure. Buy an Aisin pump. DO NOT buy Hepu.

It’s a dual overhead cam with variable valve timing. Find someone who has done them before

Unless you are barely driving it, I would add the $100 to the bill and replace the water pump with an AISIN or Volvo one, only

One of my friends living in Sweden sent me this picture the other day. On both TV and Radio they recommend people work from home for a day or two. It’s so funny, EVERY YEAR this happens and the city knows it will happen , but every single time everything collapses. Trains cancelled, buses etc. :lol: jeeez. It’s like “What! It snows this winter too?!”
