Name that rusty part

Let's play a horrifically fun game! Name that rusty part! This should be extra challenging for people who live where they don't salt the roads for snow.

The first entry comes from Geronimo, a neglected 2000 V70 from Maine, Canada, and who knows where else. Yeah, all my submissions for the game will probably come from this car.

Reply to let us know what you think it is. And add your own parts which are so rusty their maker wouldn't even recognize them.

Battery tray is plastic?

+1 on the licence plate or plate holder of some sort. Another might be one of the heat shield under trays. Last guess is one of the engine heat shields.

I believe that used to be a frang rim. That or the wizzle plate.

Based on what you were working on, I thought it might be part of the lower mount on a strut where you bolt to the knuckle, I also initially thought it was maybe the brake dust shield but the square shape is wrong I think.

Looks like a bumper bracket but it's in such good condition I'm hesitant to guess that.

scot850 is quite close among all of his guesses. It's out of sight thus out of mind, always rusty, likely to rattle.

That's so true. After I noticed it, I grabbed it and it crumbled in my hand. I've never experienced that level of corrosion before. I'm surprised that half of it remained considering that a gentle breeze could tear it in two.
