ABS Alarm On, No Codes 1997 850

Post by Baker »

126K miles. First problem. ABS alarm light on continously. No other alarm lights. Tested with Equus 3110 code reader. No DTC codes and all 9 monitor Icons normal. Controller and modulator fuses good.

1. MIJ always sez replace controller??
2. ABS relay?

Your thoughts, thanks.

Yes, I do...95+% of the time it's the controller. If it's not that, it will eventually go anyway. Victor Rocha can do it for you...also, some of the ABS codes specific to Volvo don't show up with most code readers. You can check the relay and the fuse but I doubt there's it...but report back if so. Go to Vic's site (click on the Volvo Parts tab) and you'll see diagrams, etc. where the fuse is.

Rich at Bay13 has some good troubleshooting tips for ABS lights -
http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/abstrax.php

Your ABS controller is probably in need of a visit to Vic Rocha, but you might want to check a few things - People have reported getting the ABS light after a recent brake or tire job and the repair person didn't correctly or fully connect the ABS sensor(s) back. Also, if your car lost some traction at one or more of the wheels in the rain or a slick surface, the ABS light will come on.
