1998 V70 Base - Different Lower Radiator Hoses

Post by brunocerous »

When I went to replace the lower radiator hose in Blue Steel, the hose I had didn’t have the curved side to reach the engine.

The existing one has that curved section, so I ended up leaving it on.

Is this a known variation, or should I have just bent it to fit?

There is a chassis break change on the lower radiator hose in 98-99. The earlier hose is longer with the curved end.

Earlier hose “fits” both if you cram the extra on, but to get the factory fit you need the right part

FCP has the wrong fitment in their catalog but some wanker points this out in reviews

I suspect if you ordered the earlier hose someone’s reboxed it incorrectly.

See here , too.

Executive summary

If you have the straight water pipe, heads out to rear of engine, left side of car, you need part number 6842428 or equivalent

If your water pipe connection angles forward to front of car, you need part 9470409 or equivalent

Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
