Is There Another Way to Disable Ignition System? For Engine Oil Priming 99V70XC

Post by rrres »

99V70XC

Just finished installing the head and the rest of the surrounding parts (PCV banjo bolt took 3 hours to install) :x . I'm getting ready to start the engine and would like to oil prime it first. Haynes manual says to disconnect camshaft position sensor to disable the ignition system. Is there another way of disabling the ignition besides disconnecting the camshaft position sensor?

The reason I don't want to disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector is that I have a bad track record with plastic connectors. Most of the time they are stuck and I end up breaking them.

Pull the main engine relay under the kidney fuse box. Don’t get too worked up oil pressure priming . Anyhow.

Your engine runs on 0 oil pressure for5-10 seconds every start.

If you used oil or engine assembly lube during refitting you should be all set...

Another thing you can do if set on priming is keep the car off, and use the starter pin in the kidney box by jumping it to positive battery terminal

Thanks!

Yes, I did use assembly lube. I ended up pulling the main engine relay, disconnecting the injector wiring, and cranking it for about 20 seconds. Then put everything back, started the car, and it's alive! :D but it has a massive exhaust manifold leak :x

I’ve never primed an engine and have never had a problem.
