Honda Odyssey Question - YES, I know this is a Volvo forum, but....

Post by Jonboy74 »

Thanks for humoring me....maybe this is a long shot, but I suspect (hope?) not...

Still have my 2002 V70 2.4T with 290,600 miles, and plan to keep it as long as possible! I love that car. :D

My wife's minivan (Chrysler T&C) died with 344k miles (needed a new transmission), so we went hunting for a replacement. We were REALLY hoping to replace it with an XC90, but after getting one we came to the realization that it just wasn't big enough for us right now :(

So... we bought a 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL instead. We were both kinda bummed, TBH, but the Honda seems to be a great 2nd choice so far. :)

This forum (MVS) has been PHENOMENAL for me over the years for helping to keep my V70 running, and I hope I've been able to be helpful to a few people in return with the things I have submitted.

My question are these - If you have a Honda and perform your own maintenance and upkeep, what forum(s) do you recommend that are comparable to MVS? Also, what sites are good for parts that are comparable to FCPEuro, IPD, and XeMODeX?

Again, thank you for humoring me!

Jonboy

I used to have a 2007 Honda Odyssey LX (until it was totaled).
Use Odyclub.com, great forum.
I wrote a whole bunch of DIYs in that forum.

PS: for parts, use either Honda dealer website (search around) or autohausaz.com (great for Japanese cars).

Purchased a 2003 Honda Odyssey with 154K miles and it's around 240K and runs as strong as ever. Around 80K on a set of NGK Iridiums. Have installed those on other Ody's and Hondas.

Really has been the most reliable and longest vehicle we have ever owned except for an 87 Integra. Just basic consumables and Stage 0 stuff thus far. Youtube should have a lot of repair videos.

1AAuto - most parts have a Lifetime Warranty
RockAuto - some consumables
Autohauz AZ - use to use them just not recently

There should be a great Forum for every make and model but none will reach the pinnacle of MVS.

Let us know what you find.

We have had a few Odysseys as the family hauler. 200, 2010 and now 2011, all been great. I second checking out odyclub.com also delete the VCM as step one. There's a huge mega thread on the forum. I didn't know about it and finally did that with some other maintenance this year

I kind of miss my 2007 Honda Odyssey, Japanese engineering has its own issues but overall, it is
easier to maintain than the Volvo mistress...

I have never missed my 01 Honda Oddity. Only new vehicle I have ever bought and up there as close to the worst. Terrible seats (had to get them modified with more hip support to drive any distance), Junky trans replaced at less than 30k miles, shocks blew out along with the front rotors, multiple door wiring harnesses and 2 sets of trunk struts, then it started locking the doors without prompting. Especially appreciates at 200km from home and at -17C at a ski slope. And no, the vehicle was not driven hard as it was our family hauler.

Metal made of tin foil added to the feeling of early doom.

Fortunately all repairs covered by extended warranty and Honda Canada. The dealership was the only saving grace.

Neil.

I bought an 11 Odyssey 2 years ago with 94K from my neighbor, who was the 2nd owner and had to do the head gaskets. I used odyclub for help and it was super helpful. A few members really helped me with many questions and even sold me a pair of used heads that I have now run for 15K miles. I am really appreciative of the help that I was given. Wish I could repay somehow.
