2006 v70 2.5 Turbo/ sub frame bushings ?

MDK here. So, I'd like to send this out to perhaps an afficionado out there who has been were I am. I bought the IPD bushing inserts and put them in my wagon. This particular wagon started it's life in Tucson Arizona. When I was putting the bushing inserts in it seemed that subframe bushings were very soft and plieable, not what you would expect from an 06. So,is possible that they were changed with after market ones and not genuine Volvo parts, hence the clunk I get it. We have gone over the entire front end assembly on this one, new A arms,new strut assemblies, sway bar bushings, no movement, ball joints good, tie rods good, 4 motor mounts, what have I missed?

Could be spring seats or strut bearings also, or any of the other parts you changed depending on which brand you bought. I did an entire front end with aftermarket parts a couple years ago, only to redo it 6 months later with genuine Volvo parts. I was getting several clunks most notably the aftermarket control arms had weak rubber in the bushings and the frame of the control arm was making contact with the subframe. Im not a fan of those polyurethane inserts, Volvo subframe mounts are less than 40 bucks each and make the car feel wonderful and dampen the engine vibration as they were engineered to.

I'm sure it's not an axle ping.. the struts I put on are TRQ quick struts that I got from 1aauto.com. the lower a arms are e uro parts. I'll check out what you were talking about BL... I'm really up to here with this one..MDK

I have lived through clunks for many years; all from the front and engine portion of our 2001 V70XC. No more; chased them down, all gone!

I had a set of aftermarket quick struts AND euro parts control arms during that 6 month enlightenment phase. The strut bearings are probably suspect due to poor quality and metallurgy, perhaps also the stabilizer links. My Euro parts control arms were banging on the subframe very shortly after I installed them, particularly on the passenger side bottom front.
Jack the car up and get a great long prybar and a friend to help (and some jack stands). Something is making contact somewhere. When does this clunk occur? What type of road conditions precipitates it?

I’ll make my pitch for lower ball joints… my 07 V70 112k had mystery clunking from front at low speeds, turning, felt under foot. Took it to dealer for that symptom. They found nothing. I then convinced self it was loose sub frame fasteners. Bought subframe parts to fix it. Took car to Indy shop who promptly diagnosed bad lower ball joint. No more clunking! Good luck!

Can someone her educate me re symptoms of bad subframe bushings?

I have driven many cars minivans to 150K-200K miles and have never replaced the subframe bushings simply bc:

1. I don't know better.

2. This is such a big job with special tool and labor.

So the old saying was "if it is not broken, why fix it?"....

I agree, never done any bushings in the subframe of other vehicles including a few over 200K miles. Volvo however, "suspended" the subframe on really soft bushings with large cavities. This translates into lots of play and shifting. That's why if you catch it early with inserts it will reduce the play and keep the OE bushings from tearing.
