2008 Volvo C70 Rear Brakes Rotors and Calipers

Post by SonOfAPun »

Looking for some reference material/tips/help with changing out the Rear Brake Calipers on a 2008 C70 Automatic.

My mother’s car, and unfortunately she’s unable to afford shop prices at the moment, so I told her I would help tackle the job of replacing them. One of the calipers are seized in the rear (according to the service center) and the other is on it’s way out. If anyone has any helpful links to a video tutorial that would be super helpful, i’ve seen some for other models with video tutorials but i’m not sure if those would apply to the C70. I’m assuming i’m in for a long day or two replacing these. My main concerns aren’t necessarily related to the brake pads and rotors but changing the calipers. Any special tools needed? Links to resources? Anything like “Make sure you do this! Make sure you don’t do this!” would be greatly appreciated. I love my Mom, want to take care of her and do a good job for her. Much appreciated!

Should be a P1 chassis. First video will help you remove everything and second video will (if you slow the video down a little) help you remove the caliper. The hose is pinched off with a tool. I recommend not to do that but rather just allow some to drip out and cap it with a large vacuum line cap or be creative. Will need to flush regardless.

(EDIT) Fill reservoir completely and replace cap. This will slow the fluid from the hose if you lose some. Just double check the reservoir to be sure it does not go empty and introduce air into the system. Lots of brake fluid purging if that happens.

Glad it was available on Youtube. The rear brakes on our 08 C30 was done over 4 years ago and we didn't remove the calipers so don't remember what it looked like. If possible take a few pictures of the caliper and cable removal.
