2002 Volvo C70 HT Convert Rough Trans Shifting

My 2002 Volvo C70 has occasional rough shifting problems. It also has a check engine light, and my cheap code reader says p0440. When I clear the code the engine idle and rough shifting improves.

I suspect there may be a specific Volvo code I'm not picking up and that it might be a transmission speed sensor. I bought the car a year ago and put some money into suspension parts, and otherwise, it runs like a dream.

It has 125k miles on it. Any thoughts?

The reason it runs better is because the ECU goes back to a preset set of data which means the engine will run better. Once it gathers the fault data again it will run badly again.

P0440 is an emission systems general code. It means there is a leak somewhere in the Evap system. Usual suspects are near the back of the car near the fuel tank and carbon canister on your year of car. It is often called the 'J' pipe from the carbon filter. Check all pipes carefully as in one of my cars the cracks were not visible as they were on the top of the pipe which was hidden.
