Can't find the fuel filter on an 04 V70 2,5 turbo

Please help!
I have a 2004 Volvo V70 with a 2.5 engine (218,000 miles). I can't find the the fuel filter to replace it.
Please tell me it is not in the tank. I have been under the car several times after researching the replacement online and still cannot find it on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel.

California spec P2s have a sealed fuel system with stainless steel tank, which don't have an external fuel filter.

Plastic tank, external filter

Metal tank, internal filter.

It has been raining here for the past few days so I haven't gotten a chance to get under the car again.

Finally got under the car again. I have a metal tank. What do i do now?
The car runs fine ,but is a hard to idle at start up, even when warm.

PS I need to do the pvc sump replacement, will that help?

Hmm. I’ve never had a California car with a metal tank, but the only opening to that tank is in the trunk, up and right of the spare tire well. You can spin the retainer ring with a hammer and a large screwdriver and you’ll have access to the fuel pump & gauge sender, I bet it’s in there. Be careful no smoking, sparks & don’t flick gas in your eyes, it stings a bit.

no trunk, its a wagon.
Side panels have to come out and a floor section and rear seats, unplugging the seat belt connectors will trip an SRS code if the battery is not disconnected first.

Reading the fuel pressure first could save a whole lot of work.
