2001 V70 erroneous dash message

Post by Fishinmagician »

2001 V70 2.4T

Dashboard message: "Passenger Door Open"; but it's not... interior courtesy lights will not shut off, draining battery.

Any advice or tips on how to troubleshoot greatly appreciated

Um yeah, so one of your door switches is shorted to the body, or has a broken plunger or less often, has fallen back inside the door. The first thing I’d do is start with the drivers door, find the rubber bellows that cover the door wiring up by the lower hinge and pull that back to the right exposing the bundle of wires.

Find a broken wire? Fix it with some extra wire, etc. Check all four doors and the rear hatch.

Barring that, look for the door switches in near the latch on the edge oh the door. Are they all springy? Maybe a stuck black plunger?

That should get you started, the next thing I’d do is find the hound wire in each door/hatch bundle and go to where it’s supposed to hit the body of the car and make sure it’s clean.

Get a test light if you don’t have one, it’ll help.
Looking for a V90 to be my next Volvo, at the very least a T5.

2017 XC90 Inscription - My best Volvo by far, but Ex-wife departed & I had to sell. 😕
2001 S80 T6 - rebuilt trans, head gasket, fixed & sold
1997 V70 - kid car, sold
1996 850 GLT - found under bridge, 2 year refurb project, commuter car, kid car, T-Boned - SIPS saved passenger. Totaled.
1997 VW GTI VR6 - exceedingly fast.
1971 VW Type II/231 - it was pointed out by management that the children would be killed in it.
