Engine swap

Post by Lex »

Hi
I own a 1994 2.0 20 valve 850 which the engine has expired on me,i have the chance of a good 2.5 lump from the same era, both are on manual boxes,my question being are there any real headaches in fitting the 2.5 motor into a 2.0 car, they obviously look the same etc.
Would it just be a case of swapping thr ecu about and hey presto allthough i cant believe its that easy ,i have full workshop facilaties ,i just need to know if it is feasible.

Thanks in advance

i think why there is so small response to your question is because the majority of us in North America do not even have the 2.0 engine.

When i did the change over on my cars the things you might want to consider are:

exaust flanges and connectors to the new exaust manifold.

the 02 sensor or lamda

the control modules

and the cooling system

But not knowing much about NON North American cars perhaps you can look up information on your local volvo club?

Good luck and keep us informed!

What I can think of right away: some of the 2L engines have MAP sensors instead of MAF (eg mine has a MAP). I don't know if thats really an issue. I have also read that the bigger engines have 2 ecu's where mine has only 1.
hth

anyway let us know how it went if you do it. :)
