B5234T vs B5234T3 swap

Post by WhatAmIDoing »

So I just got a good lead on a very low mileage B5234T engine and auto trans + all associated accessories out of a 94 850. Tried to do some quick searching. I know the B5234T is rated for less power than my B5234T3, but I believe the internals are identical. Are the heads identical? Is the only difference between the 2 ME4.4 vs 4.3 and a bigger turbo on the T3, plus maybe some emissions stuff? Basically, what changes a B5234T into B5234T3?

Will this be a direct swap into my 98 T5 (besides changing the flywheel for my M56) or will there be some things I have to do to convert the engine to ME4.4? Anything I should look out for before I fork over the cash?

Regardless, I'm assuming this will be a relatively simple swap without any big disadvantages vs sourcing a 98 B5234T3? Situations have changed and I really need to get my S70 back on the road ASAP.

The longblocks should be the same, between 98 and 94. Both are 2.3T N motors.

Just bolt all of your 98 ancillary parts onto the 94 longblock and go.

Did a lot of research last night. I think everything will be good to go. Just not sure if I will have to swap over the engine wiring harness to accommodate ME4.4?

Leave all of the ancillary parts that are NOT engine/head from the '98.

Put everything, intake, exhaust. turbo, harness, etc from the 98 onto the 94 engine.
