Working on my 2004 Volvo V70 2.5T AWD Wagon 250k mi - leaky rack was finally joined by leaky high pressure steering fluid line, now undrivable without damaging PS pump. On the fence as to whether to scrap beauty or go ahead and put a new HP line and rebuilt rack in. Ive taken good care of her but at 255k she is really not worth $2100 new rack + $112 Steering Shaft + $200 HP steering line. Thus Im considering a rebuilt rack.
Anybody recommend/have good experiences with a rebuilt rack? Mine is part #7852 501 929. Ive found one at Detroit Axle. Im told by friend/member here that Cordone is to be avoided as he had a dangerous experience with a rebuilt from them. I was also referred to PS Systems in Miami FL.
Any input/suggestions appreciated.

dono

There's a thread in the p80 forum. I've had success with Detroit Axle and also United Power Steering in the Detroit area.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

I’ve had the same good experience with these two vendors. About 3 years in their racks without problems. You can also drive it without power steering by routing the pump oil back to the reservoir to prevent Exxon Valdezing the environment.
