850 Charcoal canister vacuum

Post by Kokonradus »

Hello I am just doing an quick vacuum test with smoke machine on my 1995 850 2,0 non turbo model.

Problem is, that during drive I have a really bad gas odor in cabine. Have my car on ramps and checked fuel pipes all the way to fuel tank and I can´t find any leakage or drops on the ground... So I suppose problem is somewhere in the EVAP system. Tested the rear half of car and there are no leaks anywhere. Fuel pump lid clear, Fuel tank hoses clear, Fuel tank lid also... Now I am testing the front hosing of the car and really large leak is showing on the bottom lid of a Charcoal cannister and most of is from the bottom outlet.

Do someone have experience with these cannisters? My question - is there supposed to be an hose on the bottom outlet of cannister that is connecting somewhere to vacuum tree? Is it normal to have leaks from bottom sides of the cannister like on the photos or it counts as a vacuum leak? Have no experience with this system.

I have no experience with the 10V version of the 850, but on my 1997 20V, the charcoal canister is connected to two valves and the fuel tank by hoses... there are no connections directly to the atmosphere. I would suggest checking the vacuum hose diagram for the 10V to see if there is supposed to be a connection there.
