Single Dins with Floating LCDs - Boss BE10ACP

Post by TRNorton »

Hello Volvo Braintrust. I am looking at replacing my OEM radio in my 99 V70 XC with a new head that has a LED screen that will also act as a backup camera display. I have done a TON of research on the single and double dins in the $200 -$300 range that will fit with and without modification of the plastic rails. I really like the idea of the 'new' Single Dins with Floating LCDs that have come on the market like the Boss BE9ACP https://www.crutchfield.com/p_104BE9ACP ... E9ACP.html The 8" or 9" seem like they would fit perfectly to hide the old larger than double din hole of the OEM - without blocking any hazard button or A/C controls.
Has anyone had any experience with the fit of these heads?

UPDATE:
It looks like the physical dimensions of the screen should be a good fit, and it appears the screen and head unit have adjustments in and out as well as up and down. I think this should allow me to put it in the lower DIN and adjust the screen so it sits nicely in the OEM radio space. I have a laser cutter so I should be able to make a plastic or wood panel to fill the void, hide the head, and be a nice solid backdrop for the screen. The 10 inch Boss BE10ACP seems like the best fit for height - I believe it should fit on the sides nicely - just overlapping the opening . I'm getting the package with the backup camera included.
I will take photos of the process and post the final project and setup when complete.

FURTHER UPDATE:
My new Boss Single Din with Floating 10" LCD arrived shipped to my work. My coworker saw the box and said "Those are great! - sounded amazing in my car!!... for less than a week before I came out to drive home and was wondering why there was so much glass on the sidewalk - then I saw the wires dangling from the dash.
We work late hours in a sketchy part of Portland and have no parking lot.
I heeded the warning and immediately returned the stereo before unboxing it, and began further research. After an almost ridiculous amount of consideration I have ordered a true 7 inch double din - ATOTO S8 Standard Double Din Car Stereo,7inch IPS Touch Screen with HD backup camera.
My plan now is to install the stereo inset by 1.5" ish and then create a "faceplate" from my old OEM stereo. The final result should be a stereo worth stealing - camouflaged behind an undesirable one.

I will document the process and create a new thread that this one will link to.

That screen sticks out pretty far from the face of the dashboard. Try to find the depth measurement to confirm that the shift knob won't hit it. And as you likely already know, be sure the height of the box in the dash will fit between the middle rail and the top/bottom. The three single DIN radios I've installed in 2000 V70s fit perfectly. That's all I can think of.
