98 S70 GLT problem

Post by Leatherneck »

On or around Jan 13th I replaced my oil trap and all other hoses in the PVC kit from FCP Groton on my 98 Volvo S70 GLT. The rough idle from a cold start went away and it runs smoother. I pulled the black cover off the top of the spark plugs to look and see if any more oil was accumulating there and it is. I checked it due to the fact that I need to put some oil in after checking all my fluids today. (1 quart) My wife complained that when she came to a stop on two seperate occasions white smoke could be seen from the engine and it entered the cabin of the car. It smelled like burnt rubber to her she said but went away after she drove it several yards. Any ideas as to what I may be dealing with? Took the car on a 1k plus trip a month ago and had no problems.

Make sure the rubber hose to the top of the engine is cinched down good. I had a similar issue right after my PCV change and that was it.

Thanks, I checked it and discovered a small tear in the hose. I repositioned it and tightened it back down again. Checked it again today and it was completely ripped around the whole hose. It looks like I will have to either take the manifold back off and replace that hose or come up with some way to patch it in. Anyone have any advice/experience with this?

Can you cut it off evenly and still use it or does this shorten it to much? I know when I did my PCV system, I replaced all of these hoses. Some get hard and brittle...others get soft and don't hold up any longer.

This was one of the hoses that I replaced. That is what I have done for now, cutting it off evenly and using what is left. I will check to see if that works tomorrow after I drive it around town for the day.
