2004 XC70 All Keys Lost

Post by PlainRamenNoodles »

Been lurking here for a while now, finally broke down to make a post.

I lost the only key (yes, I know I should have had a spare made ahead of time) and I thought that as long as I bought the correct key, complete with code on un-opened package straight from the dealer (not cheap) that I could program it to the car myself as long as I had a DiCE unit and legit VIDA subscription.

Well, after modifying my keyway (following this tutorial, removing the pins to allow an uncut key to turn and buying all the software subscriptions I need, the software download keeps failing.

I assume this is because I cannot turn the ignition on, as I don't have a working transponder. I read somewhere that the previous keys have to be removed, but I cannot find how, and that may also be part of the issue.

Is this an issue that I can solve myself? Or that yagger/doublebug can help with? I've heard rumor of them.

Yes, I legally own this vehicle, and yes, I feel like an idiot for trying to dodge the towing/cutting charges to save a few hundred. If I brought the key with (now opened) packaging, would a dealership still honor that key and add it themselves if I have no other option?

Definitely try Yagger first.

I think Bangor is your nearest dealer if all else fails ..

let us know how it works out for you, I only have one key, I have nightmares about dropping it in the snow.

So I attached an air pod type tracker to locate the key if misplaced within 400 foot range.
Recently bought the android version (tile).
Can be used in reverse to locate your phone too.

I only had one key for my '04 V70. Contacted Conner Locksmiths in Evansville, IN. They ordered a key blank and I brought in the car yesterday morning. It was a tough safe to crack but the young lady there kept after it until success was achieved. I now have a pair of keys. (The next guy that shows up at Conner with a Volvo might get run off with a baseball bat.)
