We have a 1998 V90 with 180k on it.
until recently, only issues have been minor electrical ones, e.g. fuse #8 blows when we try to run the rear wipers and this shorts the dash lights as well. However, the shifter has been having trouble getting out of park when we turn the car on. Doesn’t always happen, but it has been happening more frequently. The other day when I depressed the the gear shifter selector knob it stayed down and even following the manual instructions for shift lock override didn’t work. We ended up yanking the shifter casing up and then reattaching it and that did the trick, but obviously, that’s not a long term solution.
The one odd thing about this has been there seem to be some other electrical issues that crop up simultaneously. When the shifter is locked, you can’t open any of the windows, either from the driver’s side control or individual doors and today the turn signals stopped working (both the indicators on the dash and the actual lights) when the shifter was locked. There is no issue opening the windows or with other electrical systems when the car is in gear or when the key is turned to II, for example.
I’ve read that the shift lock most likely indicates a bad solenoid, but I’m wondering if that would also affect these other electrical systems or is there more than one thing at work? Any suggestions will be helpful.
