Hi,
After I found some motivation to replace my head gasket, I finally restarted my '00 2.4T XC.
After a poor starting, with an unstable idle, it correcter itself within 10 minutes and the engine is running very smooth -smoother than ever since I got this car - and gave me back all its power.
Only issue is the idle, that i find high. It is around 900-950 rpm, cold or hot.
I'm pretty sure of the good timing settings. Where can I search for, do you know the right values? For me it was around 700rpm right?
Job done: head gasket, PCV system, all gaskets, new VVT solenoid, new throttle body, timing belt. i used volvo settings tools for camshafts, crankshaft.
Thanks !
Cyril

I could only imagine it being a vacuum leak. So my advice is to try spraying around hoses and intake manifold and throttle body with carb cleaner, should reveal any vacuum leaks.
Vacuum hoses(in bad condition) when reinstalled tend to be in much worse shape than before taking off as the act of pulling on it causes it tear more.

Hi, and thank you for this advice. Carb cleaner ? Never heard that before. You mean with engine on, to see if it increases rpm ?

Spraying the cleaner around joins and pipework will change the engine speed if it gets sucked in a vacuum line or get blown out of the way with leaking pressure.

If you mean intake manifold/collector gasket, you will not be the first to get caught wit that one. On the Right Side of the manifold (when standing infront of the car looking at the engine) there is a bracket that holds a pipe if I recall. It may not be the same on a 00 car, but for sure on 98 and older. If it is the same, then the bracket likes to get stuck under the manifold preventing it seating fully.

Yeah I have read about this bracket. Mine is on the good side of the collector haha.
I guess I'll have to unmount all of this to give it a look.

Hello. After i bought new screws and checked the manifold it appeared to still be leaking.
I bought a vape at the local drugstore and blew some smoke into the manifold. My injectors gaskets are dead, even if new ! Not oem ones... 3 of the 5 injectors were leaking air.
I ordered new ones, I guess it will run fine then !
