I had a thread stating I am finding difficulty finding the CV joint grease, let alone in any quantity. I see now you can get a fully synthetic grease from Valvoline that claims it can be used in wheel bearings, CV joints and the likes. It contains some Moly in it which CV joint typically has and is resistant to temperature and pressure.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000GA ... _0_lm?th=1
I tried to find this on Amazon.com but it does not come up there for some reason.

Hopefully this will be readable outside Canada!
Thanks,
Neil.

You should always get a pack of grease in the set when you buy cv joint or just cv boots.

Normally that is the case Misha. In this case I pulled this axle from a junkyard and although the boot is good, the boot had been pulled off the axle so the strap was damaged. I want to clean the old grease out and re-fill and I have a spare strap to use. Don't want to waste a full kit for that. Although with all the hassle trying to get the grease it would probably be less hassle and quicker buying another kit!
I would like to have spare grease as sometimes with the larger boots the amount of grease is not enough. I had a tin for years but it ran out a couple of years ago. What I like about this grease is the claims of where it can be used and not just CV joints.

Cv joint grease is a graphite grease.
On the back of this can says gray lithium.
Not sure about it.

On their website they claim it has molybdenum in it and it can be used for CV joints. I'll do more research and even perhaps call the manufacturer.
Thanks for you help as always!

.
We replaced both front axles on our 08 C30 T5 2.0 M66 last week. We discovered it was the passenger axle that was creating a jolting vibration beginning at around 30 mph and for sure at 50 mph. The bad axle was Volvo OE with 149,500 miles on original boots and not broken nor leaking.
On the other hand when we got the car around 5 years ago it had a broken boot on the outer driver's side. Drove it for around 2 years like that then rigged the broken boot with a zip tie (some elements still getting in) and added the Lucas Red as the axle grease. It was still smooth and did not have that dry clack like the other side as you push, pull and rotate.

Thanks for the info. I may never use the axle as it is a spare and was relatively cheap but correct for the 5 speed auto box and a Turbo which is unique to the R as far as I know. I'm not sure the 00 base model with the 5 speed auto is the same axles. What I do know is the 4 speed axles are different.

I also was curious because I used that Valvoline Grease for my CV joints.
Based on Misha's comment , I did some searching today and found that there are several CV joint greases that are lithium based:
https://carfat.net/en/parts/COMMA/CV500G
https://www.stretchcvboot.com/product/cv-joint-grease/
https://www.crcindustries.com/constant- ... e-4-wt-oz/
I also found other CV joint greases that claimed to be of a different base but there were plenty that seem to be lithium based.
(maybe they all come out of same factory
. )
btw. I linked to the above greases not because I think they would be easy for you to obtain (the sta-lube might be) but because they clearly mentioned they were CV joint greases and were lithium based.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. Useful info and the reason for the thread in the first place. Those CV boot packs seem to be hard to find these days so makes me wonder if they are being done away with and these new synthetic greases are replacing them?? Either that or some one has cornered the molybdenum market cornered and so it is now too expensive. Or maybe it is used in electric car/battery production so stocks are hard to find to make the grease?
