CV Shaft replacement tip for circlip - shaft won't go in

Post by wizechatmgr »

I had a bugger of a time getting a replacement CV shaft into transmission a month or so ago. I tried transplanting the circlip from old shaft, etc, just wouldn't go in no matter what I did if the circlip was on it. Eventually I slipped some wheel bearing grease on and in the groove of where the circlip lives as well as over said circlip. This did the trick and it slid in like butter. Prior everything including a hammer on the end was tried - it would not budge.

So the next time you're fighting with it, give it a try. It doesn't take much...

Yeah, the trick was the grease centered the slip ring and holds it while you insert. Once it drops, the ring hangs up on the edge.
