Are you sure you are up to the task? I would advise getting a quote from a shop first.

they went paperless and put everything into vida.
ipd sells the uk Haynes manual, its ok but covers a lot of models and diesel too..
i learn more from youtube and vida than the book.

AllData is better than the book, its by subscription , includes tsb's and diagnostic trouble flow charts, very good.
if you don't have vida then AllData is probably the next best.

Yes, why not. It's a matter of following procedure which is why I've asked for the manual. I do all my own work and have done for my entire adult life. I could probably wing it off of YouTube videos and forum published torque specs. I certainly could wing it on a non VVT model. It's not difficult to align marks. I would trust even my 16 year old (the owner of the car) with alignment of marks (crank and two cams). That isn't difficult. Same goes for torquing down a head. It's all about following instructions. And Cam cover... I've seen Robert DIY's method and it seems to work for him. He has enough experience (obvious by the amount of videos), that I trust what he does works.

However, it looks a little more complicated with VVT, which is why I do not want to go off of YouTube videos alone. That is unless someone can recommend one that can be relied upon for the VVT engine.

How much is Vida? I'd like to stay legal.

The Haynes manual is pretty good. Sometimes amusing, since it was written in England. Engine removal and rebuild is covered. It covers models up to 2007. It also has lots of helpful information on body and chassis. I have used it a lot.
$40 direct from Haynes.

vida is free to dl from volvo,
you can buy the subscription for $75.
Then buy the genuine Volvo DICE interface and you're all set.
