I got an "urgent" SRS service message on the dash for no apparent reason. Passenger airbag disabled. Nobody has been in the passenger seat for a while.
Scanned with VIDA, got SRS-0252 "Occupant weight sensor (OWS). Internal Fault" set about 8 miles ago. Counters indicated 1 cycle with the fault condition and 12 "good" cycles afterward without the fault condition. Caveat: most of those cycles were probably just me turning the key back and forth between positions 0 and II while I lubed points on the shifter interlock.
Anyone experienced this? I'm wondering if my best option is to try to find a complete passenger seat at the junk yard ($100) and swap it out.
I read the TNN (what Volvo calls a TSB) 88-45
https://workshop-manuals.com/volvo/v70_ ... displayed/
which involves adding some kind of underseat spring with zip ties (part 30767457). The conditions indicated in this bulletin don't exactly line up but who knows.
I have had the center console out recently (and it's still out) while I sort out a sticky key/shifter interlock cable. That's possibly suspicious since the SRS module is right there, but it's undisturbed and its rubber cover is intact. I had a look under the cover just now and everything's clean. I can't see a logical connection to the OWS code.
I could just reset the SRS error through VIDA, but I understand there is a limited number of times (no idea how many) that it can be reset before a new software download is needed. I'd rather not use up resets until I have a handle on the cause.

The passenger airbag was disabled by the SRS system due to the reported fault in the passenger seat OWS. I didn't disconnect anything on the seat.
