2004 XC 70 Anti Skid And Traction Control Light

Post by raquette »

Traction control light began to blink upon acceleration. also noticed a scraping noise like a brake pad was wore out or inner wheel dust cover is scraping the rotor at very low speed. that would come and go intermittently with the traction control.

Then the ABS light will come on and stay on and with this light on the traction light control goes off and there is no scraping. wheel bearings seem fine.

I pulled the 5 amp ABS fuse and no more scraping. Not sure what to do next.

I'm driving the car with the 5 amp ABS fuse pulled since that eliminates the scraping (that may be damaging something).

Probably the tone ring on the axle is rusty , and confusing the wheel speed sensor. Tracks will get triggered because it thinks the wheel is slipping.

Agreed with Abscate. My bad tone ring led to the exact same response. I think you can buy the ring separate and it mounts on the axel. It is not like other makes with the sensors built into the bearings.

ok thanks. looks easy enough to replace. I'll need to verify which side is not functioning next.

This would be for the front axles only, not for the rear correct?
