Ok, I'm confused - the other day I got a "low beam needs replacement" message on my dash (I might have the wording slightly off). I go in front of the car and yes, the headlight is out. But when I turn the high beams on, that is also out. I purchased a 2 pack of H11 bulbs from Amazon (rather than forking over for OEM from FCP). But then I realized, what I purchased says "headlights" with no indication that it's a bi-way bulb. But is it? Here's what I got: https://amzn.to/48tFXAW I haven't pulled the old bulb out yet to do the swap because I've heard it's kinda a pain and I don't want to go ripping this new package open if I got the wrong thing. Can someone enlighten me here - I feel like a confused idiot...

There are different headlight types on the R. The high beams function just tilts the headlight up and there is only one bulb. Those would be the wrong bulbs for my 06 S60R and not fit.

When one side burned out I first swapped bulbs to make sure the problem moved with the bulb because these cars are known to have wiring problems too. Once I had confirmed it was the bulb I replaced both sides so I wouldn't have to go back in there soon. I bought two of these https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/hid-he ... losser-d2r.

By far the way to go here is start by pulling the old bulb and see what you have. Eliminates all confusion and internet speculation.

Awesome, thanks erikv11 - I suspect you're right and I need to get some of those. I'll pull it today and have a look... I appreciate your feedback!

Doesn't the R have xeon light headlights? If the bulb is out either the bulb is bad or the ballast is bad. I would do what @erikv11 suggested, and if the problem moves it's the bulb, it not, then its likely the ballast.

Good point, I was not actually thinking about a ballast. Yes, that link I gave is for xenon bulbs. I think all 06-07 R shipped with bi-xenon but (a) not sure and (b) could be something else on the car by now.
