car buying advice

Post by famfeld »

Hello all,
As my 2004 xc70 approaching 275K, increasingly becomes a family vehicle mostly for my college-aged sons, I am looking for a newer Volvo. I like the S60 AWD, or maybe the xc60. It seems that both cars had a piston ring issue that resulted in increased oil consumption. I am used to adding oil to high-mileage cars, but would rather get a 2017 or newer, as I'm told the issue was resolved then. I am leaning towards an S60 inscription AWD but have yet to test drive anything. I've just been looking on Craigslist and CarGurus. I like the AWD because I've gotten used to it with the XC70, but am not sure if I really NEED it. I like the inscription because because of the extra leg-room for passengers (my sons are not short like me) and occasionally I drive people around for my job. Any advice regarding anything would be highly appreciated. I would like to see what I can get for 14K, but if it makes sense to spend a bit more I would. I sometimes see these cars at 90 or 100K at dealerships and when I ask them about timing belt being done, it's like they don't know what I'm taking about. They have the carfax report, but I guess that they would need the timing belt replaced. This is something I have always done to my own vehicles, but I would rather get a car that has had that taken care or already.

Thanks in advance,

Famfeld
