I for some reason thought they dropped these in 1998 when they went to throttle bodies, but it looks like as usual I am wrong if any Volvo parts site is to be believed. Never needed one or had an issue with one on P80's.
They all claim that the same valve is used on all P80's (Bosch #: 0 280 140 542. Volvo #: 9454745
It looks like the part is another NLA part from Volvo (some Bosch ones out there). Do these go wrong often other than needing a good cleaning from time to time?
If they are the same for all P80's then I may look at pulling a junkyard spare as I don't have one. Know enough P80 owners that having a spare is not an issue.
Is there a way to test basic operation if I pull a pig-tail with the connector for it?
Thanks,
Neil.

I can contribute only this tidbit to the discussion: In maintaining a half dozen 98 and earlier P80 cars, I have cleaned several IACs that were sticky, but never had one fail. I don't think I've seen them fail on the fora, either.

I am unsure in the years of reading on here that I have heard of one failing, but there is no stock, so have to believe they do fail or there would still be some around new!
Like you, I have not had one fail, yet!
I will keep an eye out for one as it is another NLA part and always like to have a spare on the shelf should one be needed.
Thanks.
Neil.

I don’t think you will have one on a turbo 99 or 00.
On an NA 99 00 you will have the DENSO IAC on a short snorkel off the big snorkel. I have two spares for your needs

I guess I will have to go lift the hood and look! Thanks for the offer. I did at least know the 99-00 NA was Denso supplied. Like I've said before recently, the Volvo dealer websites all use the same parts diagrams, and they are all flaky, giving loads of wrong 'used on' info.

Well lifted the hood tonight AFTER having been to the junkyard at -6C and wind chill.
Nope, no IAC valve on my engine. I think as suggested and I thought it is not part of ETM engines (99-) in spite of the Volvo sites AND my copy of Vida implying my car is fitted with the IAC Valve.
So now I have 2 x IAC valves. I literally pulled one from a 98 S70 when I noticed a large shadow behind me. It was an impatient driver in a huge Volvo loader with the forks down to lift the car I was working on. I had hoped to grab another couple of parts but not to be!!
I pulled the IAC valves as well as the intake vacuum 'tree' and all the clips associated with it. Interestingly, neither car (97 850 NA, 98 S0 NA) have an original Volvo item. Both have Bosch labelled units. That surprises me as I have had no experience of these failing.
Well, guess once they are cleaned they can go onto the shelf for the -98 car I work on for others.
Now just have to clean them!
