So… can I attempt to drill out this rusty mess?
It’s the upper small bolts that bolt in the top of the front strut under the hood.
Is the bolt a M8 x 1.25 x 30?
If the insert - I think it’s welded to the to the strut mount - also snaps / breaks free could I / should I just simply find a reasonable bolt and nut and washers and just use that to get this car running fast(er)? Don’t want no special order wait stuff.
Thanks
Was doing a wheel bearing job. It’s been going WONDERFUL. I will likely make another post of this saga and note a few how tos.
I also snapped the strut pinch bolt. So that’s nice. Two foot cheater bar on the 15mm head snapped the bolt in half so it’s left stuck inside the female threaded receiver on the steering knuckle.
I have that out of the car but need to source a bolt and drill / extract out the 1” fragment rusted in there.
My car is rusty but paint gorgeous.

Penetrating fluid sometimes isn’t enough…
I think a bolt and nut to secure the strut to the strut tower would work, just not sure how you’d get a wrench on it down in the wheel well without welding the cap screw to the strut plate.

I agree, the 3 strut mount nuts are low torque so whatever fastener setup you can get in there is fine for just one of them. I don't know the thread pitch offhand. Make sure the mount is worth the effort, e.g. not if its bearing is all crunchy. You can check this with the strut tower out of the car.
To echo Krons again: get a torch on that snapped bolt, that should help. Sounds arduous.

Tried to drill press it tonight, I didn't go well. No progress on that snapped pinch bolt.
Thanks for the opinions on the upper mount, I will see if I can get the snapped off bolt to come out somehow.
If not, I'll drill a hole thru the bolt and bolt in from the bottom a new bolt and nut.
