1998 s70 exc issues. What’s this metal piece in the duct?

Post by coop »

Trying to fix the ecc issues in my car.
Got the codes and it’s showing
ecc-211 drivers side temp damper motor position
ecc-312 drivers side temp damper motor. I position change
ecc-314 passages side temp damper motor no position change

I’m assuming 211 and 312 are the same actuator

Question is where are these ones located?

When taking the vents off I noticed there’s this piece of metal sticking up and not allowing the damper to close. Is this also normal and related to the actuator?

Um, no. I think there is a wire rod that works on the roller wheel to the left of those 2 air vents. Thinking again I think that is plastic not wire. So no, should not be in there. Maybe someone has tried to use a coat hanger or piece of wire to fish something out that vent? That should not affect the operation of the system.

I am trying to remember on a 98 if there are 2 servo motors just to the right of the steering wheel. On is the blend door controller and the other I think is there is controlling air to the driver's side.

Those will be a challenge to get to. The lower one (if there) might be accessible by removing the under dash panel. Then look up on the side of the center stack. That one controls the air on the driver's side.

The blend motor is higher up and almost impossible to access without removing the top section of dash, the speedometer cluster and it sits to the RH side of that on the center stack. It has a rod to is and a weird white plastic ring that looks like a matrix attached to it.

Neil.

The metal is in there good so that should be fun figuring that one out.
I figured the dash would have to come out. Seems easy enough for that part.
