Used Seat for Occupant Weight Sensor - 2013 xC60 3.0

Post by Grantus »

Hi all,

I have a 2013 xC60 3.0 I bought as a salvage title. It has about 145,000 miles on it. The passenger curtain airbag was blown as well as the passenger seat. I have replaced the passenger curtain with a used unit. I replaced the passenger seat with a used seat I got from a salvage yard, it was a 2014 I think. I've had the dealer replace the SRS model, that cost about $1800. I have an icarsoft code reader with the volvo specific programming. It told me ahead of time that the seat was throwing a wrong part code. I was hopeful that with the new SRS, we'd be able to recalibrate the seat. It did not work. The dealer said that once the new SRS module was in, he could recalibrate the seat but as soon as you started driving the airbag light came back on. Now to replace the seat sensor (Part no. 6815556) they want about $2200, because they feel it's the sensor itself that is bad.

I've been told that had I kept the original seat and replaced the airbag module, I might have had better success. But it's a moot point now because I threw the old seat away. So my question is, has anyone had any success in using a used seat? What if that car has been in an accident, should I not risk buying the seat? I found one salvage yard that has a seat in a car that has had no airbags blown, they want $175 + $240 shipping. Any other thoughts?
