Hi again everyone, I've still been researching the Volvos.
They seem to be, as everyone says here a diamond or a Dud. Where I'm going with this is I saw an interesting YouTube video where someone took a 5 cylinder with 200+ miles on it and tore it down just to see what it looked like. And the interesting thing that I noticed when they pulled the head was how the engine got dirtier from one side to the other. Almost like the last 2 cylinders were hot and not getting enough oil or cooling from the cooling system. They were quite carbonized and coked up. Is this a common thing with that engine or is that an anomaly. I understand that it has 200+ on the motor. I still think these are cool cars and want one. I just research the snot out of stuff to get a full understanding of it.
Thanks , Mark

I think you may be over thinking this. I have seen quite a few P2 Volvos, especially XC70's with over 500000km on them (over 300k miles).
The transmissions or Haldex AWD are more likely to fail. The bigger issue is like any car the maintenance that has or has not been done on the car.
Neil.

In the FingerLakes you have Brumsted in Ithaca who knows all there is to be known about these cars.

Yes, oil flow lowers from cylinder 1 to 5, oil temp raises from 1 to 5. That's expected, because oil pump is on the crank pulley side. Both engines I took apart had the same cooked oil gradient. About 220k miles both.
5 cylinder turbo runs super hot. Engine compartment is cramped, ventilation is bad. 10k OCI and unregulated oil quality also does add to the problem.
