Apologies for the cross-post in the VIDA forum - but I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a software discussion...
Folks. I replaced the linear solenoids (Rostra parts) in my daughters 2006 v5 two or three weeks ago. I was having harsh downshifts and a delayed 2-1 shift when hot.
It's taken this long to get my VIDA and Dice setup working (mostly waiting for a non-counterfeit wire to arrive) and, while I was waiting, I put about 400 km on it in an attempt to slow-learn the gearbox. It was going pretty good really - acceptable up and downshifts, but the 3-4 upshift was flaring so hard it was throwing a shift error, and whenever I got that shift error the gearbox would get stuck in 4th gear. Turning the car on and off fixed teh stuck gear, and my bluetooth dongle cleared the error...but no good.
OK - let's do the adaptation. Fast forward to today. I find a nice deserted industrial park, fire up VIDA and put the trans into adaptation mode.
First, I'm supposed to do runs up through the gear at various steady engine speeds - 1200, 1800, 2200 kinda thing. Then, I'm supposed to make a steady stop from 70 km/h to learn the downshift. Lastly - I'm supposed put it into drive and reverse from neutral a few times to teach it "garage shifts".
Whenever the TCM learns an up shift or a downshift it's supposed to flash a message. Sounds sensible enough.
Well - I did as I'm told and only very occasionally did I get the message saying a shift was learned correctly, and the few times I got the message those shift were flaring clunky garbage. It never did "learn" the down shifts or any of the downshifts.
Worst of all - it would quite frequently throw the shift error codes on the same 3-4 upshift (which were flaring badly then clunking into gear), and whenever it through the code it would end the test.
I tried and tried and tried to do this by the book for 3 hours...but I'm no farther ahead than when I started.
What am I doing wrong ? Anyone else have this problem ? Do I need to take it all apart again and adjust the solenoids ???
Arrgh
