Wanted: 1x B5244T5 Engine

Hi folks,

Well after just 9 months of ownership, the 2006 S60R I spent every last penny on has apparently cracked a cylinder. I wish I'd known about this BS Volvo design flaw before I bought the car, but it is what it is. The main problem now is that I'm on the Big Island of Hawaii and there are very few resources out here.

It would seem to me my best bet is sourcing a 2.4L engine to replace this poorly designed 2.5L. I'm told the B5244T5 drops right in, at a cost of about 40HP, and a gain of losing these crummy cylinder walls. Shipping however is going to cost a fortune.

I've looked into shimming and sleeving and it seems that a full replacement of the engine with the 2.4L B5244T5 is really the only way to go.

Anyone have a lead on a relatively low mileage B5244T5 engine somewhere?

All 5 cylinder engines follow the same design choices. T5 has a greater survival chance only because its bore is smaller and cast sleeves are thicker.

With or without shims, sleeve's thermal expansion is still there, it's only a matter of where it expands to. With shims it has no choice, but pick the cylinder head up and fail the head gasket.
