2006 S60 2.5T (307,000 kms) Rear light assembly failing.

The passenger rear light assembly in my 2006 S60 2.5 T (307 kms) has dropped the 2 centre sockets. Both of the end 2 sockets are still working... which leads me to believe that the assembly is getting power.

Both went at the same time. I pulled it and cleaned off the metal connectors. No difference.
Can anybody tell me how to test the (plastic, multi) socket with a multimeter to establish whether I have a socket problem (no feed) or if I need a new light assembly (feed but no socket power).
The socket has connectors for 4 lights.

There are no S 60s around here for me to pull a part. Does anyone know if the light assembly is the same in any other Volvo models with the same platform ?

Check the bulb socket carefully. Our 06 XC70 had bulb issues, but in one case the metal contact face where the bulb fits for power had melted through!

Thanks scot850... carefully checked both sockets... they look normal. And yes, I did try new bulbs... no lights still.

Do your light assemblies have actual wires or a printed circuit film conductor? The printed film conductors wear and fail at the main connectors. The spring contacts for the bulbs can get bent out of shape and not contact the bulb well.
Can you test for power and ground at the spring contacts in the bulb socket?
The bulb sockets them selves get broken plastic bits and won't hold the bulb correctly.

Yes, I can test for power and ground. This is what I have done... I checked all fuses and found the correct fuse that powers all lights in both upper tail light assemblies. These have four bulbs in each. The 2 inner bulbs that are stacked on top of each other, do not work.
The outer bulbs on either side (fog and other) work fine. When I was looking for a new part, I found out that both the left and right assemblies are interchangeable so I took out my working left and put the right side power to it and the same bulbs did not work. So the part itself is fine.
I can get full voltage on the outside bulb sockets but only about 1/2 V on the problem sockets. So I'm guessing that I have a wiring or
plug (female socket) issue. Any suggestions?

As I understand it, both sockets work on the other side from the problem side, but neither work on the problem side?

Are you getting voltage to the contacts for the plug assembly? Also check that none of the pins in the connector have pushed out from the socket.

That's correct. And yes, I'm getting voltage to the left and right sockets in the assembly... negligible voltage to the 2 central sockets that are stacked on top of each other.
So I have a plug OR wiring issue it seems. The socket appears to be fine but obviously need to find the short/loose ground or whatever has caused this sudden loss. Both went at the same time and all lights in assemblies on both sides go through the same fuse, which is good. Thanks .
