2006 M66 C70 front end clunk, driving me nuts.

Hi all, I need some advice with my 2006 manual C70. I have a very audible "clunk clunk clunk" sound when setting off in first gear, almost as if the suspension is unloading. I only notice this when setting off from a stop, though it could be there and less audible while driving.

Here is what I have tried thus far:

- New front struts and mounts (needed them anyway)
- All new motor mounts/trans mounts/torque rod
- cleaned/greased outer CV splines and retorqued the bolts.
- Completely disconnected the sway bar end links (fine cond) from the struts to eliminate the sway bar from the equation.
- Visually inspected the ball joints/bushings. Didn't notice anything obviously amiss.

None of these things made a bit of difference to my noise. I'm at my wit's end and need help from the experts.

Have you checked for broken coil springs or failed shocks at the rear? Sound can travel so you may not realize that it is at the back perhaps? Otherwise, I would be looking more closely at the control arm bushings at the front as well as the ball joints.

Finally I would take a look at the sub-frame bushes for delaminating of the center steel part.
