2007 XC70:No whistling sound, is it possible to still have a failed or failing PCV?

Post by AylmerQc »

A garage mechanic who worked on my recently bought 2007 XC70/2.5l petrol engine (for the previous owner) told me it needs the pcv replaced.
I have some oil around the outside of the oil filler cap and at the joint of the large black (intercooler?) pipe down by the radiator.
Watched a video where the guy does a test with a vinyl glove and I did the same. The glove didn't get sucked it but got slightly filled.
I spoke to another mechanic over the phone about doing the pcv replacement and he said if the pcv needs replacing there will be a high pitch whistle sound, but the engine on this car doesn't make or produce this sound...
What do you think? Could it still need a pcv job without the whistling sound just from the the telltale oil and glove test?

yes, it needs doing, leave the dipstick loose to prevent pressure build up for now,
otherwise you can blow the crank seals out and be in for more work.
its a diy job , tedious but diy.
