Serpentine belt

Can I reroute my serpentine belt without getting a new ac compressor? I'm aware that I will not have ac but is there any downsides to doing this or not really?

I haven't done this myself so I'm not sure, but from what I've read it is an option -- it requires a shorter belt than the standard length.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

I will guess air conditioner was deleted in some parts of the world and there was an optional serpentine belt specified. BUT, I do not know what it is.
Search Volvo parts lists?
What engine do you have?

There are 2 options for cars without A/C. What I don't know is if you have to remove the A/C compressor to route it.

The attached drawing from Volvo of Toronto has #19 which is the serpentine belt. First 2 options are non-A/C. One with Auto and the other with manual trans.
