No luck with Tasca, need to order new lock cylinder keyed to VIN, good source?

Post by Allgonquin »

Hi folks. The ignition switch on my 04 XC70 is failing - and I've only just broken in the car with 285K (miles) on it :-). I've read most related threads on most boards and I'd like to order a new lock cylinder assembly which is keyed to my existing keys. Tasca was a recommended dealer to order this from on some old threads on other boards, but I've tried to reach a human all day yesterday with no luck. FCP is a no go for a dealer item like this. Does anyone have a good source - the closest dealer for me is Annapolis MD, and it is full retail all the way, they definitely do not cater to DIY folks like us. Appreciate any recommendations!

So you are saying to just buy a new lock cylinder assembly, with its own key(s) and replace it, and just swap the blades on my fobs. OK, I guess I get that, but where to get a new lock cylinder assembly for a reasonable price?

Have you looked into removing bottom plate?

were it me i'd remove the tumblers and make it so any key could turn it, without the fob the car isn't going anywhere.

The FCP part number does not appear to be the lock cylinder after I dug deeper. It seems to be the "housing" and not the cylinder itself. Regarding the bottom plate, that is my next move, I suppose.

if you have the part number, you can just give it to fcp. Will likely cost more than tasca.

This dealership in Chicago is great for parts and they answer the phones: https://parts.volvocarslisle.com

Hi Erik, just got off the phone with Lisle, thanks for the link. They quoted $344.45 coded to my VIN. I'm going to poke around the lock assembly a bit before I pull the trigger. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a loose widget rattling around in there. Just need to find some quality time in the garage....
