P80 front wheel bearing question?

Post by scot850 »

I am planning to replace the front wheel bearings on the 00 V70R. I will probably buy SKF or Timkin from Rock Auto.

If anyone has bought these branded front wheel bearings in the recent past, do they come with the 4 x E-torx bolts in the box and the hub bolt for the axle? I went to the SKF website and it would appear that it comes with 5 bolts with the bearing so I am assuming it is the 5 bolts above as it is only listed for Volvos.

I have sent them a question on the subject but so far no response. Just want to know if I have to order new bolts as they will likely fight trying to be removed due to rust.

Thanks,

Neil.

I just did this job, was tough to remove most old bolts due to corrosion as you note. I bought cheaper new bearings and they did not come with the new bolts so had to order those separately. My impression is the name brands do come with the bolts but not sure. Just confirming you do want new bolts. I had to use my torch and angle grinder to get some of the old ones out. Just ondoing the steering tie rod end gave me enough clearance to get at all 4 bolts, did not have to disconnect struts or anything else.

I take the hubs off to do this job, as about 50% of the time in salt country the axle is stuck in the hub anyway

Good time to check CV boots for renewal, too.

New bolts on the bearing.
New nut on the ball joint bolt required - thats a deforming locker.

Yup, I plan to remove the whole hub. Yes to new bolts and 100% on the pinch bolt for the lower ball joint. I think this car has now had 3 pinch bolts in about 11,000 miles.................

I am still waiting a reply from SKF on the bearing and if it comes with bolts. I looked on Volvo sites and front and rear wheel bearing as no longer listed!!

I'm tempted to buy rears as wheel for the stash while they are still out in the aftermarket world. They are naturally press in units on the rear hubs for the AWD cars......AARRRGGGHHH!

I did not order SKF wheel bearings for my P80 from SKF yet, but the P2 front wheel bearings from SKF include the four mounting bolts and the CV axle bolt.

I got a reply from NA division of SKF. They could only tell me there are 5 bolts included. As they are only listed for Volvo's I was going to assume like crasbe has clarified that it is the 4 mount bolts and the axle bolt.

I'll look at getting them ordered and then go tackle the PITA R again to try to find what is bad on it now.

Ive seen some wierd hardware on these recently, like hex bolts, or 12 points. Make sure you have the right bit.

Shrimp hex, Shrimp torx, Shrimp 12 point, Shrimp triple square.....
