2003 Volvo V70 XC clunking noise

Post by Millikesse2001 »

I have a 2003 Volvo V70 XC with the 2.4l i5, I've noticed when driving it sometimes it makes clunks from either side of the front end when going over bumps, but its not reliable, sometimes it does it some times it doesn't. I just got the car and don't know where to look to see if anything is worn out or needs replaced or if this is just a sound a 21 year old car is going to make and that's all its going to be.

See this thread viewtopic.php?p=563889&hilit=spring+seats+test#p563889 and the video in it. Sounds like bad spring seas or strut mounts.

I have a clunk in the front left corner ('04 XC). Over big bumps or drops, like RR tracks. Sometimes random. It has new struts and seats, it has new control arms, ball joints, and sway bar end links. But something in there is making a clunk - very annoying. I'm having it aligned next week, so I'll have trained eyes look over the components for a source.

I also have all new subframe bushings in a box ready to go on - I don't know if slop in the subframe mount would cause a clunk.
